Ram Das on Story Telling

Ram Das has a new book out called Polishing the Mirror: How to Live from Your Spiritual Heart. It's an eclectic collection of tools and strategies for stilling the mind, poems by Rilke and Rumi, and thoughts about a range of topics, including, of course, aging, changing, and dying. In many ways, it's classic Ram Das, still teaching his keen lessons on the soul-centered path of life. This book, though, differs from his previous books and teachings in that it contains fewer personal stories from his life. I wondered why, since his story-telling prowess has been such an important part of his teaching of the dharma. But now, at 82, he says, "Your romantic attachment to your own story line and how it comes out eventually fades."

Yep.  Somewhere along the way that story line begins to get very, very fuzzy.  It just doesn't seem like such a big deal any more.  And the ending?  Really of no concern to me.
